LOD2 Creating Knowledge out of Interlinked Data

In an exquisite venue next to the American Embassy and quasi under the Brandenburger Tor an LOD2EU-funded (FP7) research project aiming to take the Web of Linked Data to the next level. Main research challenges: improve coherence and quality of data published on the Web, close the performance gap between relational and RDF data management, establish trust on the Linked Data Web and ... threesome took up the challenge to introduce the Linked Open Data to the leaders of the German publishing industry.

Klopotek, a german software company offering solutions to the publishing industry, did an excellent job organizing this conference for the 9th time. Attendees had the possibility to be introduced to Linked Open Data from 3 perspectives:

Sören Auer gave an overview of the vision, the objectives and the tools in LOD2 for the complete audience of more than 300 participants, Christian Dirschl explained the Wolters Kluwer Germany Jurion platform and how it will evolve through linked open data, Bastiaan Deblieck, told how TenForce and its partners are preparing the infrastructure, publishing platform and metadata management for linked open data at the European Commission, and what this means for publishers.

All 3 speakers where challenged on the vision, the implementation and the progress in the area of Linked Open Data. Nevertheless they were able to clearly frame and position what is going on and what the opportunities and threats can be for publishers.

LOD2 definitively would like to be present in 2013 to present progress!
